Modern Expressions Ordering, Pricing and Payment Information


The Ordering Process [go to top]

Modern Expressions employs friendly, courteous and knowledgeable staff who are always ready to assist you with making your purchasing decision and processing your order; be it a single barstool or an entire bedroom, dining room and living room set order. You always have the option to process your order via our website or over the phone by contacting our Customer Service department and having your order processed by a live representative.

After your order is placed you will receive an "order confirmation" email within 24 business hours of placing your order. Please ensure to retain this e-mail receipt for your records as it will serve as your invoice.

Kindly take the time to review all the details of "order confirmation". Any discrepancies, changes or cancellations need to be communicated in writing to Modern Expressions within the 24-hour window.

If you do not receive your order confirmation after 24 hours, please contact our Customer Service. Be sure to include your current e-mail address and details of the order. We will gladly resend the confirmation to you.

Modern Expressions operates a 25,000 SQ/FT warehouse facility with many popular items in stock that are ready for immediate shipment.

In the event that the items ordered by you are not in stock at our warehouse Modern Expressions initiates the ordering of merchandise on your behalf with appropriate vendors – this type of process is called “Special Order”. This typically occurs 24 hours after your order is placed therefore it is very important that any discrepancies, changes or cancellations are communicated in writing to Modern Expressions within the 24-hour window. Any written communication received after the 24-hour window has passed will be reviewed by Modern Expressions based on our Cancellation Policy.

Special order items are broken down into 2 groups.
  • «Modern Expressions – Customer»
  • «Vendor – Customer»
  • «Modern Expressions – Customer» Refers to items that are typically obtained from local vendors and importers who do not have the capability to ship the furnishings directly to consumer’s homes. Instead they ship the goods to Modern Expressions Warehouse. Once the “Special Order” merchandise you ordered arrives and is carefully unloaded and inspected by our experienced staff of furniture handlers, one of our customer service representatives will e-mail you or give you a courtesy call to notify, that furniture is now ready for shipment or delivery to you.
  • «Vendor – Customer» Refers to Manufacturers, suppliers, distributors, and importers of furnishings that have the capabilities of sending the furnishings directly to your residence or place of business. Frequently Modern Expressions will have one of the reputable delivery companies pick up the furnishings and deliver the goods straight to you from the manufacturer’s warehouse to shorten the period of time between you placing the order and being able to enjoy it. In this case you will be notified by the delivering company’s scheduling clerk of your delivery.
In order to track the status of your order you can view information by logging into your account. Should you have any questions or need any clarification please feel free to call our Customer Service Department.

Modern Expressions takes pride in providing our customers with the lowest rate of damages and work tirelessly to ensure that all items that leave our warehouse are in the excellent condition that our customers deserve. As well as contracting with only reputable delivery companies in the event the item ships directly from the manufacturer to you.

In the rare event that the merchandise arrives damaged or defective we will be happy to arrange for its repair or replacement at no additional charge to the customer. Modern Expressions retains the right to determine the best method of rectifying the situation (repair versus exchange). Please see our Return and Refund Policy for more information.

Prices shown for items on this website's product pages and in your shopping cart are for merchandise only. Please proceed to checkout to see the total cost of your order, including any applicable tax, delivery or other fees. (Most of our items ship to you free of charge)

While Modern Expressions strives for accuracy in making sure pricing, descriptions, colors and other product related information is 100% correct, errors may occur. In rare cases where such errors do occur, Modern Expressions expressly reserves the right not to honor offers made on this website and to cancel orders arising from such errors. In this case any payments that have been authorized for that order will be promptly returned. Seldom products displayed may become out of stock or discontinued.

During the checkout process you can enter coupon or promotional code that you would like to use with that order. To redeem a coupon or promotional code, enter the appropriate code. Sales Tax [go to top]

Items shipped to destinations in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania(PA) outside of Philadelphia are subject to a 6% sales tax and 7% if delivered to City of Philadelphia. Modern Expressions does not collect sales tax on goods shipped outside of PA. Customers residing outside of PA are solely responsible for paying sales taxes on items received from Modern Expressions to their local authorities or tax collectors.

All products and services are priced in U.S. dollars.

We accept most major credit cards including but not limited to Discover, MasterCard, Visa, and American Express. Payments can also be made through PayPal.

Additionally Modern Expressions will gladly accept as a payment method: Checks, Money Orders, Cashier's Checks (in U.S. dollars and drawn on a U.S. bank)

You can place an order with a credit card, by using our Web site. Alternatively you are always welcome to call our customer service representatives who will gladly assist you in placing and completing your order. Our systems are very secure, and all customer information is kept private

Charging and Credit Card info [go to top]

Modern Expressions does not save or store any credit card numbers of its customers. Once a customer completes online order, his/her credit card issuer authorizes Modern Expressions to charge an appropriate amount of money to the customer’s credit card. Modern Expressions will charge customer’s credit card whenever the merchandise is shipped or 21 days after the order is processed (whichever comes first). However, in some cases Modern Expressions may charge your card in the time of the sale.

Please note: all payments sent through PayPal charged immediately upon ordering.

Modern Expressions always strives to provide our customers with best possible pictures of items that we. However, due to different monitor settings some color variations between the picture that you and the item that arrives to your house may occur.



Order Acceptance [go to top]

The receipt of an order number or an email order confirmation does not constitute the acceptance of an order or a confirmation of an offer to sell. Modern Expressions reserves the right, without prior notification, to limit the order quantity on any item and/or to refuse service to any customer. Verification of information may be required prior to the acceptance of any order.



Modern Expressions Shipping, Return and Cancellation Policies


Cancellation Policy [go to top]

All products that are not stocked in Modern Expressions warehouse are custom ordered for our valuable customers.

As soon as you place your order Modern Expressions proceeds to submit the order directly to manufacturer on your behalf for all non-stocked items. Such sequence of steps typically occurs within 24-hour period after an order is placed by the customer. Once this step has been initiated Modern Expressions, and thus the customer, become financially obligated to purchase and pay for the ordered merchandise from the manufacturer.

In the event you need to cancel your order after it has already been submitted to the manufacturer by Modern Expressions on your behalf – typically within 24 hours of order placement, Modern Expressions will do its best to attempt and help you with cancellation of your order. Modern Expressions will contact the manufacturer and make all the necessary arrangements, but unfortunately even we are not able to cancel any orders which have been already prepared for shipment or actually shipped by the manufacturer. Please, note that even if the tracking number is not available to us or you at the time you request cancellation of your order; it might actually be already too late. We will contact you immediately after the manufacturer advises us whether we can cancel your order or not. Therefore any cancellation of the order after this point will need to follow the Cancellation Policy as described below.

Any exception to this Cancellation Policy will be solely at the discretion of Modern Expressions management and in the event that a decision to proceed with the cancellation of the order has been granted by Modern Expressions management, the customer may be responsible for a cancellation or restocking fee of up to 30% of the purchase price as well as any shipping and handling fees that may apply. In order for a cancellation to be addressed, the customer must submit the request in writing via e-mail to support@modern-expressions.com



Return and Refund Policy [go to top]

If, for whatever reason, you are not satisfied or do not want to accept your order after it arrived and wish to process a return please send an e-mail notification to returns@modern-expressions.com to request a Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA) within 14 calendar days of the receipt of the product. The written request for the RMA must include the customer’s contact information, order number in question as well as a clear description of the items being returned or exchanged. Also, please ensure to specify the reason for the return. Our staff will then process your request, provide you with an RMA number and will arrange the pick up of merchandise. No orders will be accepted back without prior authorization by Modern Expressions. The refund for your order in the full amount of your order less all delivery charges and a 25% restocking fee to accept the return of the item by the manufacturer will be processed to you after the item is received back by the warehouse.

All items being returned must be sent to our Warehouse located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It is the customer’s responsibility to ensure that the items are prepared for shipping (wrapped, packaged etc.) with care and effort to prevent in-transit damages.

Please note that all shipping and handling charges are non-refundable. In the event that Modern Expressions receives merchandise back with evidence of customer abuse or mishandling the customer becomes responsible for the damages.

Most items sold on Modern-Expressions.com are advertised as "Free delivery" as part of a promotion, or a discounted shipping was offered (whether or not the customer was made aware of the shipping discount at the time of purchase) the delivery costs are always incorporated in the price of our items and will be taken into the account when the refund for such item is processed. After request for such return is fully processed, email with all the costs involved will be sent to you. Please, do not assemble the furniture that you might be returning since furniture assembled by customer cannot be accepted under any circumstances.

Items that are unopened and are in original packaging can be exchanged or returned for a refund based on the original method of payment.

All products being returned must be in new and unused condition, packed in original packaging including any accessories, manuals, documentation and registration that shipped with the product and shipped to Modern Expressions warehouse within10 calendar days of the issuance of the RMA. Any exceptions may result in additional fees for which the customer will be responsible. An open box fee of up to 30% of the purchase price will be assessed on any opened items. Modern Expressions is not responsible for the shipping and handling charges of any returned items. All return shipping and handling charges are the responsibility of the consumer.

Configure-to-order, custom-made or other customized and “special order” products may not be returned for a refund or exchanged under any circumstances unless authorized by a Modern Expressions representative. In addition, please note that Modern Expressions does not permit the return of or offer refunds for non factory damages or damages that are not caused by the shipment of items. Finally, we cannot process returns or exchanges for items that have been assembled. Orders that are refused at the time of delivery will be processed under the Cancellation Policy. As a result the customer will be responsible for shipping and handling charges as well as a restocking fee of up to 30% of the purchase price.

Damaged Items [go to top]

Modern Expressions delivers most furnishings in Tri-State area (South Eastern PA, Central & South NJ and DE) via our own company trucks and contracts with only professional delivery and trucking companies for all other Geographical areas in continental USA. Unfortunately, accidents damaging your ordered items may occur. While this happens extremely rarely, we do ask our customers to thoroughly inspect the merchandise at the time of arrival and note all comments on damage in their entirety on the bill of lading before the delivery driver leaves. Customer is also asked to photograph the damages, call us when this occurs at 215 671-9342 and e-mail the photographs of damages to support@modern-expressions.com within 3 business days of delivery. If the damages are not promptly and fully noted and reported, we might not be able to assist customer with later claims. We reserve the right to repair furniture in customer’s home, replace the damaged parts or accept return for repair and/or replacement. You can be assured that we will do everything we can to solve all problems with minimal inconvenience to you. Regretfully, we can only authorize full refund in the event when we are unable to repair or replace the item. We also expect our customers to accept delivery appointment for any repairs or replacement furniture to complete the order process.

Defects that have occurred during the manufacturing process and passed the factory’s quality control checks are not caused by mishandling during the shipping process. Modern Expressions deals only with respected and experienced furniture manufacturers, importers, and suppliers that stand behind their products. In the event that a manufacturer’s defect occurs, please submit photographs and a clear description of the defect to support@modern-expressions.com and we will present the claim to the manufacturer on your behalf. We will then work with the manufacturer in question to assess the best way to remedy the situation. The remedy may be a replacement of the defective part or item or may consist of a repair. Please note that the method of correction will be at the discretion of the manufacturer and Modern Expressions management and will be assessed on a case by case basis.

Please note that most of the time defects that pass the quality control inspection of the manufacturer as well as checks performed by Modern Expressions are very minor in nature. As a result, these can be easily fixed by a professional in furniture repair industry. Modern Expressions will help to locate the appropriate individual to repair the defect if the situation warrants.

Due to the nature of the furniture business, please note that Modern Expressions cannot guarantee that the finish of the ordered wood, leather, or stone will be exactly as pictured. Imperfections or variations in the grain, color, or sheen of the wood may occur naturally. Stone finishes such as marble and granite may differ in color and veining. In addition, variations in the color, sheen and texture (wrinkling and natural marks) of leather may occur due to different dying and tanning processes and natural phenomena. As a result, these naturally occurring characteristics are not viewed as damages or defects.

The responsibility for damages that occur during the shipping process rests with the shipping carrier. If you are receiving curb-side delivery please note any damage to the boxes being delivered on the delivery slip at the time you accept the items. If you have requested for the furniture to be assembled, please ensure that you note these damages when you sign the assembly service slip. Modern Expressions will then work with the carrier to claim the costs and remedy the situation. Please note that the method of correction will be at the discretion of Modern Expressions management and will be assessed on a case by case basis.



Shipping Policy [go to top]

In either case Modern Expressions will arrange for your order to be shipped via the most dependable, quickest, and safe way possible.

All Modern Expressions customers are contacted to confirm delivery and shipping address via phone or e-mail and in the event that you are not ready to accept delivery we will be happy to hold the merchandise in our warehouse at no charge for 7 business days. After this time passes your account will be charged a storage fee of 2% of the purchase price per day.

All shipping estimates listed on our website are approximate and we strive to adhere to them as closely as possible. Unfortunately, these estimates are dependant on product availability from the manufacturer as well as shipping delays en route to our facility. Therefore we cannot be held responsible for beating or exceeding originally expected delivery estimates that are caused by factors that are beyond our control.

If the merchandise ordered will be delivered by a carrier such as UPS Freight you will be contacted directly by the carrier to schedule a delivery appointment. You will typically be provided a 2-hour window for your appointment that will usually be Monday through Friday 8AM to 5PM. Weekend delivery is available at an extra charge that is not included in the standard Modern Expressions shipping calculation and thus is the customer’s responsibility. Representatives of these carriers are not authorized to bring the merchandise into your home or assemble the items. These services can only be arranged in advance, prior to the shipment of your order from our warehouse at an additional fee. The standard/typical delivery scenario is that of a curb-side delivery which means that purchased items are unloaded from the truck and left by the curb of your residence. Additional fees apply if the items you ordered require a lift-gate to unload the truck, if you need the items to be brought into your home and even more so if they need to be carried up the stairs or assembled. If you have special requirements for your delivery please contact our Customer Service department and we will be glad to assist you. Most of the items we sell are large and heavy. Please ensure that at least one or two people are available to help unload the truck at the time of the delivery appointment. In cases where assembly of the furniture is ordered in advance Modern Expressions coordinates for the furniture to be brought into the customer’s home and assembled. As part of the service the trash left at the end of the assembly process is removed from the customer’s home.

If, after numerous attempts are made by Modern Expressions to contact a customer, we are unable to reach them, we reserve the right to recall all merchandise for a full refund of the purchase price, less all shipping and handling costs that are incurred by us as a result. A restocking fee of up to 30% of the purchase price may also apply. The same applies if a customer is not available to accept a delivery at a previously arranged time after an appointment had been scheduled and the delivery cannot be completed.

Items offered with free shipping are dependent upon customer location and size of order. We reserve the right to alter this offer should your zip code lie outside standard UPS Freight and FedEx delivery routes (such as, but not limited to Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico). In addition, orders for items with weights that are more heavy than usual or expected may need to be readjusted for extra unforeseen fees. No additional fees will be charged without notifying the customer and obtaining prior approval.

It is critical that any damages that are visible at the time of delivery are noted on the delivery and are accompanied by the customer’s signature. If the boxes containing the items appear damaged please mark this very clearly on the delivery slip. If you have ordered for the items to be assembled and have noticed any damages during the assembly process, please ensure to note this clearly while signing the assembly service paperwork.
